Cybersmart Aquatics offers a complete, ability-based pathway—from Learn-to-Swim and stroke development to competitive squads, adult training and high-performance coaching.

Swimmers are placed according to their current ability rather than age alone. This ensures that every swimmer begins at the appropriate level, develops strong foundations and progresses with confidence.

WATER CONFIDENCE, SAFETY AND STRONG SWIMMING FOUNDATIONS

A structured six-level pathway that helps children and adult beginners become safe, confident and increasingly independent swimmers.

Our Learn-to-Swim programme provides a safe, encouraging introduction to swimming.

Lessons develop water confidence, safe pool habits, breath control, floating, kicking, body position and the foundations needed for independent swimming.

Swimmers can attend up to four sessions per week, with lessons available in 15- or 30-minute formats. Placement and lesson format are determined according to each swimmer’s ability and individual needs.

The Learn-to-Swim Pathway

Level 1: Axolotl
A gentle introduction for swimmers with little or no previous experience. Skills include safe entry and exit, face submersion, blowing bubbles, supported floating and basic kicking.

Level 2: Bluefish
Swimmers develop greater independence through front and back floating, kicking, body control, safe exits and movement through the water with reduced assistance.

Level 3: Crocodile
Confidence develops into control. Swimmers practise gliding, breath control, underwater movement, stronger kicking and introductory stroke movements.

Level 4: Dolphin
Freestyle and backstroke foundations become more consistent. Swimmers also begin developing breathing coordination, breaststroke, butterfly movements and early turning skills.

Level 5: Eel
Swimmers build strength, rhythm and distance across all four strokes. Training introduces streamlining, wall push-offs, turns, diving skills and longer swimming combinations.

Level 6: Flamingo
The final Learn-to-Swim level develops confident 25-metre swimming, improved execution of all four strokes and the technique required to progress into Stroke Correction.

Swimmers receive recognition as they complete each level. Progression is based on demonstrated skill and coach assessment—not simply time spent in a programme.

Essential equipment

A swimming costume, Purple Cybersmart Swim Cap and kickboard are recommended for Learn-to-Swim lessons.

Technique-focused coaching for swimmers ready to progress beyond the Learn-to-Swim foundations.

Our Stroke Correction programme helps developing swimmers improve their technique, fitness and confidence across all four competitive strokes:

Butterfly

Backstroke

Breaststroke

Freestyle

Lessons focus on body position, breathing, timing, kicking, coordination and stroke efficiency. Swimmers can attend up to six 30-minute sessions per week, allowing them to develop skills consistently at a pace suited to their ability.

The programme supports swimmers who want to improve their fitness and efficiency, as well as those preparing to progress into competitive squad training.

Placement is based on swimming ability and coach assessment.

Essential equipment

Recommended equipment includes a Cybersmart swimming costume, Blue Cybersmart Swim Cap, fins and a kickboard.

YOUR FIRST STEP INTO COMPETITIVE SWIMMING

A supportive introduction to structured squad training, racing skills and age-group competition.

The Beginner Team is designed for swimmers ready to move from stroke development into a structured squad environment.

Swimmers build endurance, refine all four strokes and develop essential racing skills, including:

Starts, turns and legal finishes

Lane discipline and training etiquette

Pacing and race preparation

Warm-up routines and structured training sets

Confidence in a gala environment

Teamwork, discipline and positive racing habits

Swimmers can attend up to six 60-minute training sessions per week under the guidance of experienced coaches.

Competition is introduced progressively through the recognised Cape Town Aquatics, Western Cape Aquatics and Swimming South Africa pathway. The aim is to create an exciting but carefully managed introduction to age-group racing.

Beginner Team placement is determined through assessment and coach approval.

WHERE COMMITMENT, TEAMWORK AND TECHNIQUE BUILD PERFORMANCE

A competitive squad for committed swimmers with provincial and national aspirations.

The Junior Team is for swimmers ready to make structured training a genuine priority.

The programme develops advanced technique, endurance, race execution, discipline and the consistency required for long-term competitive progress.

Swimmers can complete up to ten 90-minute swimming sessions per week, depending on their age, goals, readiness and guidance from the coaching team.

Pool training is supported by two 60-minute SwimGym strength and conditioning sessions per week to develop well-rounded athletic ability.

Training focuses on:

Stroke count, pacing and race splits

Aerobic development and training consistency

Strength, mobility and core stability

Race preparation and recovery habits

Personal responsibility and team contribution

Junior Team placement is coach-led and based on ability, commitment and readiness for the programme’s training demands.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE TRAINING FOR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AMBITION

Cybersmart Aquatics’ highest-performance squad for experienced, highly committed competitive athletes.

The Senior Team is designed for athletes pursuing national and international competition.

The programme combines advanced technical refinement, race preparation, physical conditioning, disciplined daily training and individual performance development.

Athletes can complete up to ten 120-minute swimming sessions per week, supported by three 60-minute SwimGym strength and conditioning sessions.

Individual training volumes are determined by the coaching team according to each athlete’s age, readiness, event focus and competition schedule.

Training may include:

Advanced stroke and underwater refinement

Race-specific speed and endurance development

Starts, turns, pacing and tactical preparation

Maintaining technique under fatigue

Strength, power and physical conditioning

Competition planning and recovery

Personal accountability and high-performance habits

Senior Team placement is strictly coach-led. Entry is based on demonstrated performance, training commitment and readiness for a demanding high-performance environment.

TRAIN WITH PURPOSE. SWIM WITH COMMUNITY.

Structured adult training for fitness, competition, endurance and race preparation.

Our coached adult programme brings together Masters competitors, triathletes, open-water swimmers, lifesavers, returning athletes and people training for fitness.

Each 60-minute session combines technique-focused drills, endurance swimming and pace work. Depending on the lane, training set and swimmer’s ability, participants typically cover between 2.5 km and 3.5 km per session.

Lanes are organised according to pace and training goals, allowing swimmers to be challenged appropriately. Members can attend up to five sessions per week.

This programme is intended for swimmers who are already comfortable swimming continuously. Adult beginners are warmly welcomed through our Learn-to-Swim and Stroke Correction programmes.

A free 15-minute assessment helps our coaches recommend the correct starting level for children and adults.

Every swimmer arrives with a different level of experience, confidence and a different goal.

Our free 15-minute swimming assessment allows a coach to evaluate the swimmer’s current ability and recommend the most suitable lesson, programme or squad.

During the assessment, we consider:

Individual goals

The most appropriate programme and starting level

Assessments take place at our indoor, heated facility in Milnerton and are suitable for children and adults.

There is no obligation to enrol. The purpose is simply to help you make the right decision from the beginning.
